Fahtiem first leads us through a warmup using a veil to help stretch the shoulders in ways that we don’t usually move in our daily tasks. Level changes are added to help warmup the entire body. Next, we began to step while circling the veil with one arm for several repetitions before switching to the other arm. I have some mild shoulder issues so I need to listen to my body and will reduce the range and/or number of repetitions as needed – and that’s fine as I still get benefits from this workout. The workout moves on to veil flicks and flows. You can really feel the beautiful flow of the veil as you start to add hip circles and shimmies. The brief cooldown contains several stretches that feel wonderful after working the shoulders.

This program can help you build stamina to perform veil movements with ease for a light and airy feeling. It is the only program I know of that turns bellydance veil movements into a full workout. Some knowledge of bellydance movements is helpful but you could also substitute simple steps or sways for some movements.

Included are two beautiful veil performances by Fahtiem to inspire your dancing.

I highly recommend this video as a fun and different way to work out while building stamina in the upper arms and shoulders. (5 out of 5 rating)
